A Study in Sand
The main living/entertaining space of the home has a fully open concept with no separation between the family, dining, kitchen, and breakfast nook. This embrace of open concept is what sold the owners on the home, the husband who is also the chef not wanting to be cut off from his guests while entertaining. To ensure cohesion, we selected a bold neutral color scheme of black and off-white honing in on classic sophistication. Embedding splashes of bold color, deep blues and greens paired with accents of brass tie the design together.
Family room:
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, a subtle light gray with a warm undertone, a perfect neutral evoking the color of a sandy beach was used throughout this space, a perfect backdrop for the art selection. The family room needed to provide a comfortable place for watching movies, great conversation, and game night. Ample seating that was both durable and plush was high on the priority list. For this, we paired a set of Pottery Barn Leather tufted swivel recliners with a Bernhard leather sofa in charcoal leather. The swivel recliners were a perfect selection for the client's multi-functional needs. The client was adamant about finding recliners that were not the typical bulky, lackluster design. These sleek recliners feature a completely hidden trifold footrest that extends to support the comfort needs of the man of the house standing at over 6ft tall. To anchor the room and provide ample surface area for games, drinks, and snacks an oversized leather ottoman in faux croc skin from Mosaud brings in a deep navy, finished with a brass bass.
The space had to have a TV, big sports fans this space is often used for viewing big games throughout the year. Viewable from all angles of the open living space the TV was mounted on a extendable swivel mount. Beneath, a low-profile credenza in a cream fluted wraps the body of the pies bringing texture and visual interest to the monochromatic piece. Supplies ample storage for the family to tuck away games. electronics, and the kids' art supplies. A gas fireplace situated in the corner of the room was chosen to easily provide warmth to the many cold winter nights in Dallas. It was important to the family to have a kid-friendly option, no open flames that also was easy to use, on and off with the flick of a switch. Coordinating artwork and accent pieces were thoughtfully placed throughout the space. A large-scale canvas art piece featuring blues, gold, and black was selected to tie all the design aspects together.
